Effective DIY Fruit Fly Trap!

Hi there. It’s Mr. Wada back on duty. It gets hotter and more humid during the rainy season in Japan. Under this condition, keeping garbage bags in kitchen would be one of the worst acts that brings fruit flies, which just has happened to the Wadas. Well, we missed last garbage day. What can we do….(=3=) Anyway even after getting garbage out, they fruit flies are still around. I’d searched and found this DIY fruit fly trap to get rid of them.

DIY Fruit Fly Trap!

Dilute either mentsuyu (soba/udon soup) or vinegar (apple cider would be good as well) FIVE TIMES with water, and pour a few drops of dish soap. That’s it!

How It Works

Normally bugs are able to stay on the water with the surface tension. However, dish soap lowers the surface tension of the water, so the bugs go sink and drawn dead. On top of that, mentsuyu and vinegar work to attract them.

Since mentsuyu is available everywhere in Japan, it would be easy and very cost-effective! I highly suggest it. Vinegar seems not as effective as mentsuyu but still works alright.

Leave the trap where fruit flies are around.

Effectiveness

I rather not share pictures to prove how much it worked, for me though (it could only disgust you) I surely found the idea very cool. Paper cups would be easy to dispose after capturing fruit flies.

Lastly

I guess I will try it more in summer! Now sorta looking forward to checking the CATCHES in the morning. Hehe. Please try it and share your thoughts.

See you around!
