Satsuki and Mei’s House in Nagoya

Ohayougozaimasu! It’s Mr. Wada back on duty dayo! (clearing throat) I would like to share our trip to Satsuki and Mei’s House in Nagoya this time.

Satsuki and Mei’s House in Nagoya

Satsuki and Mei are the main characters of My Neighbor Totoro by Hayao Miyazaki (Ghibli Studio). The story begins with them moving into an old house in suburb. This house in Nagoya is a perfect replica in a life-size! (of course it’s official) located in the Morikoro Park, a place that was made for the World Expo held in Aichi Prefecture back in 2006.

Note

Since entry to the house is all scheduled, just like in Ghibli Museum, you gotta be punctual. Not necessary to purchase the ticket advance but I strongly do so (just in case it’s sold out when you are there). Another information to note is that, it is located a little distant from Nagoya central. Also the park itself is huge (20-minute walk from the North gate, 10-minute walk from the West gate to the house). Make sure to get there early. We tried but end up had to catch a taxi!

After check-in at the reception (suggested to do it before 15 minutes), the guide gives us (a group for the same schedule) some instruction and we are off to go to the house.

The reception.

We can enter the house with the same group (for about 15 minutes) but camera is NOT allowed inside. Don’t feel so down. We still can take millions of pictures from outside.

Hey that’s exactly the same as we saw in the movie!

Alright, photo time after the tour.

Looks familiar? Yes, that’s daddy’s room.

The way it is messed is perfectly re-enacted.

The Wadas with a friend.

Even little things are made the same (and actually work!).

Doing like they do in the film!

A view from the observatory. It feels there is a magic in there. Down there is totally fantasy.

Alright. Let’s call it a day.

Lastly

How do you find it? FYI, Studio Ghibli Theme Park is scheduled to open in 2022 right here in Nagoya. We would love to come back for it in the future for sure.

See you around!
