Daimyo Gyoretsu Procession in Yakage
Yakage Town is in Oda Gun (District), Okayama Prefecture, accessible by car or local train called Ihara railway (transfer from JR Soja Station). And, this Daimyo Gyoretsu (daimyo = feudal lord, gyoretsu=procession) event is held on the second Sunday of November every year.
More than 80 people (as daimyo, princess, soldiers etc) walk through the main street of Yakage with the earworm phrase ‘Shitani-, shitani (した~に~、したに)‘ which means like the lord’s passing, kneel and make way) REPEATEDLY (all day). Mrs. Wada looked she suffered for the rest of the day. Hehe. They walk pretty slow like only a few steps by each ‘Shitani-, shitani’, so it gives us enough time for taking photos and videos. Check out the video I took.
Street performance.
Samurai (moving to other events)
This is an actual residence. Don’t walk in for checking for photos.
A nice place to chill out.

Lastly
How do you find it? It was pretty cool that the entire town seemed to become one for this event. (I felt the vibe!) Although most of restaurants would be closed or accept only take out but there are many food stands instead. We would like to go back for cafes, etc., another time..
See you around!
This procession is more interesting than most processions I spy on. But I still think handlebar moustaches should be banned
