Katsuyama / Kuse Kenka Danjiri Festival in Maniwa City
Katsuyama and Kuse are both in Maniwa City, Okayama (only one train station for each other). This Kenka Danjiri festival is held every Oct 19th and 20th in Katsuyama, Oct 24th and 25th in Kuse. As its name (kenka = fight), it gets quite rough! The battles are one-on-one style. 2-3 tons of the floats bump each other!
Watch out! Sometime they would lose control and come this way. It’s rough but I can’t deny its excitement. It was a cold Oct night but I could see steam rising (from their bodies!). Even just watching it takes lot of energy!
