Welcome to the World of Yokai: Mizuki Shigeru Road / Mizuki Shigeru Museum (Tottori)

Hi there. It’s Mr. Wada back on duty. I would like to introduce Mizuki Shigeru Road and Mizuki Shigeru Museum in Tottori this time.

Welcome to the World of Yokai: Mizuki Shigeru Road / Mizuki Shigeru Museum (Tottori)

Shigeru Mizuki, most known as a writer of Gegege no Kitaro which was also made into animation in every era (!) so show has different generations of fans. The road was named after his name since he grew up in this town and also the museum opened in 2003 on the same street.

Let’s get started with Mizuki Shigeru Road!

Mizuki Shigeru Road

The museum is at the end of the road (on West side) so basically we’d walk down and check out what awaits.

Look at the boy over there in Kitaro’s jacket (yellow and black).

Most of the stores on the road are Yokai themed.

There are a bunch of Yokai statues everywhere. Go check how many of them you can find. Some are Mizuki Yokai and some seem to be classy Japanese Yokai.

Mizuki Shigeru Museum

Here we are. The Mizuki Shigeru Museum. Pre-order tickets are available with some discount but you can just drop in as well. A drop-in ticket was like 1000 yen for adult but it may vary so please refer the website for the latest information.

Camera was allowed in most of sections but I would like to avoid spoiler alert with fewer pictures. You could trace back his history and his works. It was quite interesting to know how things would go with him during the war. Quite extreme but with his drawings it kinda turns funny in some ways.

A gift store at the end.

Hey don’t miss that there’s a Kitaro house after exit.

Let’s call it a day.
